About Us

Penny’s Pals Dog Rescue, Inc. is officially open!!!

Michael Turcotte and I, Dorothy Turcotte, have been in the dog world for over 15 years now.  We unfortunately had a terrible loss a couple years back when one amazing young lady came into our life, did her training and boarding with us, then the owner decided she needed to be euthanized. Michael had offered the week prior to take her and rehome or knowing him, keep himself, as the entire center and all the staff loved this dog. We got the call on Monday that they put her to sleep that weekend. Ever since that day he has done nothing but talk about rehabbing and rehoming shelter/rescue dogs, along with dogs that come thru our center with issues their owners cannot control, that may not get a second chance in life and doing it all in Penny’s honor. This was the start of our dream to open Penny’s Pals. Our motto is GOOD DOG - WRONG HOME! We know this all too well as that is how we came to adopt Dakota. This process took a while to get set up and started but it is a dream, I knew he would not let go of. I cannot say that this is a new passion for us as our first rescue was Jasper, back when we had just started out in Holliston, MA during the start up phase of The Happy Retriever. Jasper was a Greyhound Friends’ pup that was left at a local facility in a crate, at the bottom of a run, for over a year. Just let out for potty. The manager of the facility asked that we help get him out of there as he was just a puppy and deserved so much more from life. From there we helped save and rehome Martin, Rondo (AKA Mr. Bruno Service Dog), Handsome Howard and many others. Since we moved here to Maine and started the enrollment process with the state and government for our Non-Profit Rescue, we have already, at our own cost, helped save 4 amazing pups.

This dream has now become reality as we announce the formation of Penny’s Pals Dog Rescue, Inc. a Maine Corporation, established September 8, 2022. We have put together an amazing group of Directors and Corporate officers to make sure we can help save all the pups we can.

They are as follows:

Michael Turcotte – Director of Operations

Rich Powers – Director of Social Media

Debbie Dyer – Director of Fundraising and Promotions

Chris Gaboriault – Director of Adoptions

Jocelyn Gaboriault – Director of Foster Care and Training

Dorothy Turcotte – President

Alyssa Dos Santos – Secretary

We are not your typical rescue as we believe in balance training methods and will be working with dogs that most rescues will not take in. During their training and behavior modification, they will be working in a training center with multiple handlers around many different dogs, as well as in home with Michael and I. The typical timeframe for this training regimen, before entering a foster home, will vary between 2 -6 months. This will depend on the circumstances as to why they have been surrendered to us and the amount of training needed. Once we feel confident that there are no major behavioral issues or concerns and the pup is ready, we then have them stay with a foster family before being available for adoption. The most important aspect is the continued training that will be offered to the new family, whether it is at our in-home training center here in Maine or at The Happy Retriever’s training facility in Mass, so we can set everyone up for success.

Please help us spread the word and share our new page with your family/friends so we can let others know that there is always a second chance for those pups that just need the right home.
